Coyote Code of Conduct

Calavera Hills Elementary School believes that in order for students to develop and maintain a positive self-image and behave in a productive manner, it is necessary to have a discipline policy which emphasizes the positive, recognizes and rewards responsible actions, and stresses student decision-making. We believe that good behavior will, in turn, lead to improved learning and academic success for all students. Students are actively encouraged to learn and develop responsibility for their own behavior, in turn, contributing positively to the school community.

CHE Family Handbook

Dress Code

Students should dress comfortably and appropriately for all school activities including class time, recess, and PE. Appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment. Students have the right to make individual choices from a range of clothing and grooming styles. However, such choices must not present a health or safety hazard or a distraction that would interfere with the educational process.

  • Students must wear closed-toed shoes with a closed back or back strap to keep the shoe securely on the foot.

  • No rollerblades or shoes with wheels allowed (Heelys)

  • Gang clothing is not permitted

  • Clothing and accessories cannot advertise, promote or glamorize any of the following: drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, violence, weapons, or display inappropriate or sexually suggestive language or symbols. Additionally, they may not advocate racial, ethnic or religious prejudice.

  • Hats/hoods may be worn. If a teacher requests that a student remove their hat indoors, the student must do so.

Zero Tolerance

The Carlsbad Unified School District has established a “zero tolerance” policy regarding the possession of any dangerous object- i.e. gun, knife, or object used in the manner of such weapons- on school property, unlawful sale of a controlled substance, robbery or extortion, and causing serious injury to another person, and sexual assault. Any one of these offenses will result in an expulsion recommendation.

Discipline is designed to guarantee the safety and well-being of the total school community. Emphasis is placed on student self-responsibility, self-respect, positive learning attitudes, and school pride. Sexual harassment and/or intimidation of any kind- verbal or physical- will not be tolerated and may result in consequences such as suspension. Habitual patterns of inappropriate behavior will require parent involvement to resolve.
