Hello Carlsbad Unified School District families,

I would like to invite you to participate in a number of community-related events in February and March.

First, please bring out your warrior spirit to help children battling life-threatening illnesses, diseases and disorders by participating in the 9th Annual Mitchell Thorp Foundation 5K on Saturday, February 3rd at 8:30 a.m. It will take place at Poinsettia Park in Carlsbad. There will be a family fun festival and great prizes for all ages at the event. We encourage you to show your school spirit by joining your school’s team. You can sign up with your friends and family by going to mitchellthorp.org.

Second, please join Kids for Peace and the Great Kindness Challenge for a Community Pep Rally on Tuesday, February 6th at 3:30 pm. The Rally will be held at the Stadium at Carlsbad High School. This will be the culminating activity in this year’s Great Kindness Challenge, which was started here in Carlsbad and has been featured on Good Morning America and many other media outlets. We hope you’ll come out to be part of the fun, and to help remind the world that Kindness Matters.

Finally, we hope you’ll participate in two events benefiting the Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF). The 2018 Celebrate Carlsbad Day will take place on Saturday, March 3 at Legoland; discounted tickets can be purchased at carlsbaded.org, and all proceeds go to support our robotics programs for all 2nd grade students in Carlsbad Unified schools. Also, please sign up now for CEF’s 4th Annual Pedal for a Purpose, to be held on Saturday, March 24 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. Come on out and “SPIN for our Schools” - the funds raised support music and STEM programs across the district. You can learn more at carlsbaded.org.

The highlights:

  • The Mitchell Thorp 5K on Saturday, February 3 at 8:30 am at Poinsettia Park;

  • The Great Kindness Challenge Community Rally on Tuesday, February 6th at 3:30 pm at Carlsbad High;

  • The 2018 Celebrate Carlsbad Day at Legoland on March 3;

  • Carlsbad Educational Foundation’s Pedal for a Purpose at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa on Saturday, March 24.

Dear Parents and Neighbors,

The Coyote Dads will be having their 2nd Annual Coyote Dad Golf Tournament fundraiser! This is one of the largest and most important fundraisers at our school. Proceeds raised through the Golf Tournament will go toward the Calavera Hills Elementary PTA. Did you know our school is one of the only elementary schools in our district to offer Project Lead the Way? In addition, the Golf Tournament will continue to also support Specials, PE Teachers, Arts/Music, and anything else needed for children and teachers at Calavera Hills Elementary!

If you have a child at Calavera Hills Elementary, we are holding a contest to see which class can raise the most money.  They each have a goal of $550.  If they meet the goal the Coyote Dads will throw the class a pizza party!  At checkout you can direct your donation to whatever classroom(s) you’d like.

There are several ways to support us:

1. Buy some golf balls for our Helicopter Ball Drop for a chance to win up to $2,000 (20% of the overall)!

2. Come out and join us for a day of golf and fun! Golf tickets can be purchased at www.calavera.accelraising.com which includes registration, a box lunch, 2 drink tickets, and range balls!

3. Become a business sponsor! If you own or work at a local business please consider becoming a business sponsor of the tournament!  You’ll get your business logo and your very own page on the event website and a tee sign at the event! Our parents really appreciate our local sponsors and always try to do business with them!

We will also have a Silent Auction with a chance to bid on some fantastic items!

If you have any questions regarding the event, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail at Bryan.Zoepfl@cobragolf.com.

Thanks in Advance for your support,

Bryan
