We strongly believe that parent involvement is a critical and necessary element to achieve student success. There are many opportunities for parents to become involved at Calavera Hills.
PTA- PTA is an integral part of the support system- financial and philosophical- for both students and program at CHE. Calavera Hills has an active PTA, and we encourage you to become actively involved in our school. Our annual membership drive begins the first week of school. Look for notice in the Coyote Courier and become a part of our team! Our PTA website is www.calaverahillspta.com for more information.
School Site Council- is an advisory council which serves to oversee the school program and categorical budgets. Guided by our school vision and mission statements, as well as our Single Plan for Student Achievement, recommendations are made to support the student program at CHE. Parent representatives are elected to fill vacancies each year.
English Language Advisory Council- meets monthly to discuss and provide input regarding services and programs for our Second Language Learners. All parents are welcome to attend. Please contact Mrs. Marlene Bullard, English Language Development Specialist, through the front office for more information.
Everyone A Reader- is an organization whose primary purpose is to support student literacy through reading with children. We are actively seeking volunteers to read one-on-one with children for 1-11/2 hours per week. Coordinated by classroom teacher, Lindsay Stough, training sessions are held twice yearly on campus. Please contact the school office if you or someone you know is interested in helping our students become more fluent readers!
Classroom and Lunchtime Volunteers- Teachers are always in need of parents to assist them in classroom activities and programs. If you are interested in volunteering in your child's classroom, please let the teacher know. Additionally, anyone interested in serving as a lunchtime volunteer to facilitate student games and activities would be greatly appreciated.
Curriculum Support Volunteers- Each area of the curriculum brings with it new materials and supplies, some of which are consumables to be inventoried and replaced each year. We have had the benefit of wonderful parent volunteers to support arts, science, math programs. If you have an interest in these or other areas, please see the principal.
Carlsbad Education Foundation- is a non-profit volunteer organization that raises money for the Carlsbad Unified School District. Funding has supported music in all elementary schools, science at the middle and high school level, and innovative instructional practices and programs.
