About Me

I am pleased to be starting my fourth year in the Carlsbad Unified School District at Calavera Hills Elementary.

I grew up in San Diego County, attending Halecrest Elementary School, Bonita Vista Junior High and Bonita Vista High School. I graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in liberal studies and an emphasis in elementary education. Fortunate enough to get a teaching position right out of college, I began as an English Literature/composition and physical education teacher in the Santee School District where I taught middle school for 6 years. It was during that time that I realized how much my teaching and interactions with students would impact their successes, not only in school, but also in life. Encouraged by my site principal to get into education administration, I completed my studies at SDSU with a graduate degree in Education Leadership and my administrative credential.

I have served as assistant principal, vice principal, and for the past 19 years, principal in three districts. I truly love what I do and value each and every day spent with children and teachers.  My focus has always been the question, What is best for children? Be it teaching, program, discipline, or staffing- everything revolves around that question. I am proud that the school and community at Calavera Hills reflect that focus as well.

It is a great thing to live in the community in which you work. My husband and two children also work and attend schools in Carlsbad. Both my son and daughter are active in community sports, so much of my free time is spent on the playing fields- soccer, baseball, and lacrosse. It allows me to watch many of my students, too! I enjoy reading, music, traveling with my family, and my Starbucks.

It is a great gift that you allow me to share your children each day. Trust that we take that responsibility seriously.
