Principal's Report

As principal, my goal is to provide an educational experience for your child that is challenging, engaging, supportive, & enjoyable. Keeping an eye on the future where our students needs to be college and career ready, we embrace the concept that our children will be best prepared in an environment where character counts alongside academic achievement. On our campus, you will see our vision in action - We are a learning community. We are also S.U.R.E.  Safety, Understanding, Respect, and Effort is how we conduct ourselves in all that we do.

Our focus for the 2014-2015 school year will be on the implementation of the Common Core State Standards into our instructional programs, as well as preparing our students in grades 3-5 for the SBAC (standardized State of CA testing in English language arts and math). Specifically, you will see a focus on the following areas when you visit our campus:

Pupil Outcomes/Academic Achievement for Students:  Focus on daily attendance - you have to be here to learn!, student academic progress from one evaluation/assessment to another - we are looking for growth!, increase focus on writing and problem solving, implementation of the 8 mathematical practice, & increase in teaching learning strategies for our students (such as Close Reading).

Engagement: Increase in technology usage in classrooms (such as use of the Chromebooks), create partnerships with parents, & encourage parent volunteerism & involvement, increase in student focused lessons and interactive learning, & create a school community where everyone (students, teachers, parents, staff) belongs, is respected, & is welcomed. Engagement at CHE looks like smiles, happiness, & going above and beyond!

Conditions of Learning:  Practice sound safety practices on campus - be prepared!, ensure that all students are supported at their instructional levels with a sound intervention system that includes additional intervention specialists and specialized curriculum/materials, & a focus on decreasing the ratio of technology to student in the classroom. Teachers will be instructing with technology such as SmartBoards and Chromebooks in the classroom.

At Calavera Hills, we are a pack of learners! Come & see for yourself & listen for the HOWL!
